Communication

Fixed line
If you need to call from Russia to another country, it is necessary to dial 8 then 10, code of the country, code of the city, then the number that you need. In you need to call to the city or cellphone in Russia you need to dial 8 then code of the city and then the number.
8-10 is dialed instead of “+” or “00”.
Calling from the fixed line to mobile in Russia you dial 8 instead of “+7”. 7 is code of Russia and inside of the country you do not need to dial the code.

In some hotels you need to dial 9 at the beginning because they use ministation and 9 is needed to start the outer call. Sometimes the hotels ask you to make an advance payment for the calls without it you can call only to the local phone numbers. If you spend less money that you gave, as the prepayment for the calls, the hotel returns you the rest of the sum.

Telephone card
The cheaper way to make a call is a telephone card. You can buy it in newspaper kiosks, telephone stores, they are usually located near the bus and metro stations and it is not a problem to find one. The card costs in average $5. You need to scratch the back of the card with a coin, there will be a secret code. First you dial the number indicated in the instructions on the back of the card, if you have instructions in Russian usually the telephone number will be under the point 1 or 2. Second you dial the code that you see on the back of the card, third you dial the number. Sometimes it is not necessary to dial 8-10 in front of the number if you call abroad, maybe it will be only 10 and then the number. The best if you get card with instructions in English or ask somebody to help you with it, young people who work in the telephone stores usually speak some English. In Russian Telephone card is pronounced like “telephonnaya carta” almost the same as in English.

Sim cards
You can buy a sim-card in the small kiosks which sell telephones, the most popular ones are Euroset (yellow stores). If you buy a sim-card in Moscow, and then go to another region you will have roaming, we recommend to think in which region you are going to stay more and buy the sim-card there.

Internet
Most hotels in Moscow have high-speed Internet connection. In some of them you need to buy a card on reception or you connect a cable to your laptop in a room.
Many areas are covered by WiFi internet and you can buy a card of the system “Golden WiFi” it costs about $20 and good for a month, the cards are sold in the telephone kiosks.

In Krasnodar you can buy WiFi cards in the hotel or telephone stores but the services are more expensive than in Moscow. In some hotels you can get cable internet connection and the amount will be included in the bill when you check out.
